Thriller Live opened in London 5 years ago, on January 2009. Since that day, the show that brings Michael Jackson’s music back to life celebrated a few milestones including 20th longest-running musical in west end.
The Lyric theatre is the home of Thriller Live in London west end since 2009. The success of Michael Jackson’s music allowed the musical to become the longest-running show in the theatre’s 125-year history. “5 Guys Named Moe” held this previous record there.
Last year – October 2013, Thriller Live celebrated its 2000th performance. A few special moments made this show a special one: a new release of “Heal the world” sang by the all cast, including 6 young MJs altogether on stage for the first time; and iconic Billie Jean danced by David Jordan as MJ with young MJ Eshan Gopal. After the show, the cast shared a big MJ cake and an aftershow party at London Planet Hollywood.
And finally, almost a year later – September 24th, Thriller Live became the 20th longest-running musicals in London west end, running 2,399 shows. It’s now not so far away from the 19th place occupied by Grease! (closed musical) and its 2,529 performances! The 1st and 2nd places are currently held by still running shows Les misérables (11,963 shows) and The phantom of the opera (11,632 shows): 2 references in musicals through the world that still receive an incredible welcome from the audience! Have a look at the Society of London Theatre’s website for the entire top 20.
Congratulations to the whole company of Thriller Live for reaching the 20th place of longest-running musicals in London west end! And no doubt that the extension of the show until Septembre 2015 will help them to achieve other records!
